Denver Art Museum North Building Renovation & Addition

K2 partnered with architectural firms Fentress Architects and Machado Silvetti for the renovation of approximately 210,000 sf in the museum’s North Building, originally designed by Italian modernist architect, Gio Ponti, in the 1970s. The revitalization project included nine floors of renovation, a new main entrance, spacious galleries with seventh-floor rooftop views, and a new 50,000-square-foot, three-story welcome center with a restaurant, café, and event hall.

The Sturm Grand Pavilion inside the new Sie Welcome Center features a stunning, elliptical, and fluted glass wall — the first structural glass wall façade of this scale in North America to support itself without the need for intermediate framing. K2’s acousticians worked closely with the design team to analyze and study the unique geometry and help guide the design for more favorable acoustics.
